My artworks start with a landscape or detail I find compelling, which I capture as a digital photograph. The subjects are mostly landscapes or natural objects in Washington County, New York, where I live: the Hudson and Battenkill Rivers, a nearby bridge and lock, neighboring fields, and interesting trees and plants. To create patterns, I copy, flip and rotate a selected area of a photograph so that the pieces fit together seamlessly. These images each contain a unique pattern arising from the alignment of components of the original photograph. The patterns, often beautiful and intricate, are perceived as abstract, while the details are seen as photographic.
