About Lawrence Grodecki
Lawrence Grodecki is a contemporary Canadian artist, digital and mixed media. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. That was back when Sputnik was still trending. Flipping ahead to 2005, after almost 20 years of running a gardening catalogue, he decided it was time to pour his creativity into art instead. Over the next six years his gradually developed his style gradually evolved, while he learned the various aspects of digital painting . . . so often he is asked, "Is that oil or acrylic?" While his style has developed steadily over the past eleven years, it has only been made available to collectors over the past five years. For most of this period he has also served as a live-in caregiver to a parent with Alzheimer's, living in a relatively remote part of the world, especially in terms of "the art world". Mainly for these reasons he has focused more on social media than on fairs, exhibitions and gallery representation. That will happen eventually. In the meantime his art has been sold online and collected in Europe and North America. His style has been described as, "a unique choice of combining drawing with naturally found objects, and then the digital painting . . . this represents an evolved and mature art language." Within the several layers of his art there are often tiny images that blend into the larger ones. Almost Mayan, the viewer may very well experience the art differently, depending on the viewing distance. Through it all, Lawrence reflects his curiosity about humanity's relationship with nature . . . with that which is immeasurable. He tries to be non-political in his art, concentrating on the drops of rain in lieu of the storm. This includes a search for the relevance of one simple observation, "There are no lines in nature.
