Ligia Fregnani

LÍGIA CRISTINA FREGNANI MARTINS was born in 1958 in Sao Paulo - the city in which she began her artistic training in 1973 at academic school. From then on she attended the classes and workshops of various artists, among them
Ferdinando Bastiglia, Celcilia Yoshida, Gilberto Raimundo and Yoshiyuki Miura. She is a graduate in Psychology and Pedagogy. In 1983 she put an end to her activities in the field of psychotherapy in order to devote herself exclusively
to art and further more set up her own studio in which shealso teaches painting. After exploring various techniques,styles and materials and though several phases are noticeable as various styles were delved into, she
developed her own "artistic statement" in which one can observe an enduring presence that characterizes her whole work, that is to say contrasts and polarities. In 1993,feeling some what dissatisfied with figurative art, she set
out to achieve greater freedom to express her subjectivity in the abstract. From then on she has been exploring the abstract - initially informal and gestual and later geometric and structural.
