Lina Puerta was born in New Jersey and raised in Colombia, South America. She received her Bachelor degree from Wells College with Honors in Studio Art (1992) and a Master of Science in Art Education from Queens College (1998). She has been awarded fellowships from Socrates Sculpture Park (2010), Urban Artists Initiative/NYC (2009-2010), and the East Harlem's Artist Award from AHAA (2009). Puerta also received grants from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (2006) and the Queens Council for the Arts (2004) for the creation of her Public works. She has actively exhibited her work in venues including Opalka Galery, Albany, NY (2009); Lehman College Gallery, Bronx NY, (2011) and El Museo del Barrio, NYC (2011). Lina Puerta currently lives and works in New York City.
