My practice is primarily concerned with the translation of the environments we occupy and my relationships with my surroundings. I respond to the way in which we co-exist with our environments; architecture, landscapes, the spaces we’re immersed in, create moments with, move around, and share with others. Sculpture has become the cornerstone of my current practice, not necessarily perceived as polished pieces, rather as a process that informs my two- dimensional works. Fragments of my surrounding environments have taken my interest, which I have been translating into unfired clay. Rigid, robust structures are re-established into smaller, doughy, and fragile sculptures. Creating the sculptures as a first process then allows joyous freedom within my paintings. Having the flexibility to play with scale and perspective within my sculptures allows me to manipulate the importance, unimportance, and fragility of the fragments. My work aims to form different perspectives on familiar things, inviting a type of playful observation.
