Markus Klein-Gunnewyk

I was born in Düsseldorf in 1967. Today I live and work in Basel, Switzerland. I began my professional life as a business economist. It was only later that I discovered art.

From the very beginning, I developed a passion for watercolor. An intensive period of training and study began. I acquired the foundations for my creative work through various artists in Germany and abroad, in courses, workshops, and through self-study.

Core elements of my artistic process are the exploration of composition and design, as well as the development of coherent forms and tonal values. In my work, I give special attention to the unpredictability of water. In my opinion, a loose and expressive brushstroke is the key to the true beauty of watercolor.
