Martha Shamy

I was born and raised in the San Francisco bay area, and living in Boise, Idaho for the past 30 years. I
have attended numerous colleges, including San Francisco Art Institute and Rhode Island School of
Design, primarily studying printmaking. I have spent years as a docent at the Boise Art Museum and
have loved learning about art I have not known before as well as sharing it with others .I am currently
teaching elementary art and have been for the past 10 years. Its great fun and the best job I’ve ever had.
I have continued to make art and seek out art throughout my lifetime. I am also a Christian
and biblical themes trend throughout my work. I fell into encaustics, seeking a less expensive way to
present my images, and have really grown to love it. Some works are on paper, some on wood, but
almost all have elements of collage and image layering.
