Aouail Mihoub

Since my discovery of artistic creation in San Francisco in 2002, and having since created in Oran, London and Barcelona; I continue my work, in the Holy Land, in my workshop in the middle of "La Plaine", the multicultural neighbourhood of Marseille.

For all of my works, as I paint or draw an element, I gradually see other forms of life appear. Working with contrast, color, and light, I give new roles to these forms compared to the other elements.

This is an unconscious and intuitive exchange between the canvas, paper, color, and matter: my tools and myself. During this exchange I am communicating, almost in communion with each one of these elements, and let them take their place.

I try to create a certain visual harmony, without getting worried about esthetics: paradox of an honest and new research over a defined moment. Once the gesture is finished, an energy is released. My body is the first "tool" of expression and I am the last one responsible for it.


I remain strongly attached to this city, which made me believe in my most amazing dreams and which allowed me to discover surrealist pioneers who still guide the end of my fingers today. Such ar...
