I took up painting seriously after my two sons returned from war. Death hit too close to both of them and worry for them consumed me. I needed a way to decompress and embarked on a journey to become an artist.
I took a myriad of water media classes from some wonderful instructors in Nashville, and through MOMA. I discovered a fascination for new processes and thanks to my unrestrained curiosity have learned to push a lot of envelopes in the mostly abstract mixed media art I create. I break rules, use all types of paints, pastels, charcoal, graphite and more to create abstract and figurative works I hope uplift the viewer. Not saccharin works, mind you, but hope and joy in a nod to forces greater than us that things will work out as they are meant to.
My art has been on display in solo and group shows, both juried and open in Nashville, Tampa, Orlando, San Francisco, Scotland, the Netherlands, Norway, Australia and Germany. Some of my works are among private and commercial collections on three continents.
I typically make art in my home studio in Montgomery County Maryland. For a deeper dive into my inspiration and artworks, visit my website www.maurasatchellartist.com, follow me on Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter or Facebook. To reach out directly, email: Maurasatchell@gmail.com
