Oleg Piyak Tsyganyuk

I started art studies when I was 11, in Ukraine. Last fifteen years I’ve been living in Barcelona, so inspiring with its incredible skies, its mountains and the sea. Painting is for me as necessary as breathing. But the most important aspect is that each painting brings me to te point of having to make changes, not only tecnique- or style-related changes in the painting, but also in the way I see the world. Each time I take the brush, I try to outdo myself, and what guides me is a sense of truth. And part of the truth in a work consists in finding the union point of two opposite things: light and shadow, motion and stillness, lucidity and madness, wisdom and foolishness —the same thing everybody in this world looks for. All I can say is I do it in all honesty. I do not like to paint nice; instead I look for harmony. Each work asks for the development ot its own world, each paint has its own truth.

I don’t follow any painting style in particular but I go along with my times and thus I’ve drunk from many sources. I find inspiration in philosophy, mathematics, music, psychology. I seek to unite logic and intuition, effort and inspiration. In my opinion, an artist must know the trade well and for this reason I never stop learning, ...
