Peeky Free

I’m a creative returning to visual arts following twenty five years in the animation and music industries.
Starting with a series of prints, digital drawings and soon, larger stencil based works and sculptures, my work is broadly pop art, a modern commentary on consumption, identity, status and spirituality. From the stylized flat vector studies of ramen noodles to almost twee digital drawings, the work forces us to take a closer look at the overlooked details of the things which litter our planet.
I’m calling it ‘the fundane’. A re-evaluation of the everyday to find beauty and joy hidden in the side effects of manufacture, exposing the personal within the mass produced. How we engage with and fill the objects and language around us with history and meaning.
I make the majority of my work using a computer. I’ve created music, animation, graphic design and whatnot for twenty-odd years using these machines so had no intention of picking up a real pencil or paintbrush when it came to making this new work.
There’s no need to find validation for these ideas by excelling in any certain technique. I was deemed the best drawer at school in 1986 and I have no intention of repeating that accolade to any extent today (or at the momen...
