Kofi Owusu a contemporary artist born in Ghana as an artist, I am deeply inspired by the beauty and resilience found in the discarded and overlooked. My work is an exploration of waste fabric as a medium, a material often deemed worthless yet brimming with untold stories and vibrant potential. By repurposing these textiles, I strive to challenge perceptions of value and permanence, transforming remnants of the past into vivid, expressive canvases. My creative process begins with the collection of discarded fabrics, each piece carrying its own history and texture. These fragments, once part of something whole, now come together in a tapestry of color and form. Through this medium, I seek to breathe new life into what was once abandoned, using the inherent qualities of the fabric—its patterns, textures, and imperfections—as integral elements of my art. Painting with waste fabric allows me to merge the tactile with the visual, creating works that invite viewers to engage with the materiality of the piece. The layered fabrics create depth and dimension, echoing the complexities of our own lived experiences. Each artwork becomes a dialogue between the past and present, a fusion of memory and imagination. Sustainability is at the heart of my practice. By reusing materials that would otherwise contribute to waste, I aim to promote a culture of reuse and mindfulness. My art is a statement on the potential for renewal and transformation, reflecting a belief in the power of creativity to redefine and repurpose our surroundings.
