About The Artwork
It is Summer, and I find myself painting landscapes with snow. The seasons provide contrast so we can appreciate the change of colors, scents, temperature and all the memories from childhood that weave their way into all four. All works from the SPLINTERED WISDOM series are created on paper mounted wood panels artfully painted and splashed with pure watercolors. The rich texture of the trees are created with collaged bits of images of bark and litter I clean up off scenic highways, as a gentle reminder that if we do not stop trashing the planet, trees will not grow from our garbage in the future. Details and shadows are added near the end with graphite pencils. The overall result is an aesthetically alluring composition with a hidden message about protecting our forests. This piece is finished with two coats of archival satin varnish, creating a contemporary but natural look.
