I listened to Matthew McConaughey read his new autobiography, Greenlights, while creating my first waterfall painting below from recycled litter, scrap wood from Dave's shop, and old torn maps. MM weaves colorful tales of the human spirit and I found his words very inspiring. He reminded me to work in "real time". I'm giving his book a Greenlight! "When we focus on the outcome instead of the activity, we miss the doing of the deed. We either think the world depends on the result or it's too good to be true. But it doesn't and it isn't. And it's not our right to believe it does or is. Don't create imaginary constraints. A leading role, a blue ribbon, a winning score, a great idea, the love of our life, euphoric bliss... Who are we to think we don't deserve these fortunes when they're in our grasp? Who are we to think we haven't earned them? If we stay and process within ourselves, in the joy of the doing, we will never choke at the finish line. Why? Because we're not thinking of the finish line. We're not looking at the clock. We’re not watching ourselves on the Jumbotron performing. We are performing in real time where the approach is the destination.” ― Matthew McConaughey All works from the 'Dissecting Gravity' series are created on paper mounted wood panels artfully painted & splashed with many layers of pure watercolors. The colorful designs of the trees are created with collaged litter and recycled junk mail, as a gentle reminder that if we do not stop trashing the planet, trees will not grow from our garbage in the future. Scraps from Klein's husbands wood shop add beautiful woodgrain and texture. The overall result is an aesthetically alluring composition with a hidden message about protecting our forests. Klein has developed her own unique process for adhering high quality watercolor paper purchased in large rolls onto wood panels. The entire piece is finished with two coats of archival satin varnish, creating a contemporary but natural look. The edges are painted a dark charcoal hue. No framing required. This piece is a Diptych. For more information about the Artist:

Linda Klein, a nature-loving artist hailing from the Bay Area, California, embarks on a soulful journey that harmonizes realism and abstract expression. Unveiling her artistic flair in preschool, Linda's earliest creative adventures prompted her parents to enroll her in local art classes—a bid to save their home from toddler graffiti and nurture her burgeoning talent. Nestled in the wild beauty of West Marin since 2009, Linda draws inspiration from her surroundings. Her artistic evolution mirrors the diverse landscapes she calls home—ranging from detailed graphite drawings to vibrant, ecologically themed pieces infused with recycled collage elements. Linda's unique process involves mounting watercolor paper onto handcrafted wood panels which are often created by her equally talented woodworking husband. This technique imposes a modern eco-conscious approach that bypasses traditional framing. Linda's art is a personal reflection, resonating with the rhythms of nature. With an unwavering commitment to continuing her creative education and a dance between documentation and new realities, Linda Klein's journey is a deeply personal ode to the beauty of our planet.
