Victoria Roberts is an artist currently based in Georgia originally from St Louis, Mo. She has a background in Fine Art and Photography. Her other skills are bookmaking, jewelry, home installations and wood burning (pyrography). She aims to show the emotional side of African American culture, perspectives, and experiences. She wants her collectors to really feel her paintings. Allowing them to question where it may be deriving from, and becoming emotionally and consciously aware. Victoria was the first person in her family to come to terms with mental health and to seek therapy. Being a sensitive person to others energies, and allowing herself to feel she would often questioned the narrative of why mental health is as only “for” the Anglo people. Throughout her work she promotes mental health and emotional awareness by leaving little seeds of African history, culture or language in her work. She would often be envious of those that spoke their native language as well as English. Initially aiming to break some of the generational curses that she found not only in her family but in others also. The disconnect, the lack of emotional intelligence that she experiences first hand and on the outside looking in. All of which resides in the trauma of the past to present knowingly and unknowingly, which she hopes to reflect in her work.
