About The Artwork
The owl is emblematic of a deep connection with wisdom and intuitive knowledge. If you have the owl as totem, you’re likely to have the ability to see what’s usually hidden to most. The process of this piece began with drawing and painting this great horned owl with graphite and watercolors. The rich texture of the tree branches are created with collaged bits of litter that I clean up off of scenic highways, as a gentle reminder that if we do not stop trashing the planet, trees will not grow from our garbage in the future. Layering watercolor, collage and graphite pencil, I work to create an aesthetically alluring painting with a deeper message about protecting our forests. This piece has been mounted on a wood panel and finished with two coats of archival satin varnish, creating a very contemporary yet natural appeal. The edges are finished with varnish as well, but left natural and often display drips of paint from the process. No framing required.
