"AGITATEVI... in the space of a poster, in the street. Always in the street.” This is how CHEAP FESTIVAL concludes the invitation to the Call 2023, moving from “Agitate” against wars, in universities, in clinics, in unauthorized Pride, while you voguing, while you hang out the laundry… This invitation immediately resonated with me, who with my artistic production urges to wake up shouting WAKE UP! There are splendid days, a thousand opportunities, a comfortable life, at times, for some, if we close many eyes. If we sleep in front of the pay TV, if we enjoy making superfluous purchases online, if it is enough to blame others, the different ones, if we switch off in front of the reels, yes, maybe the kittens will save the world, maybe not! Maybe we should resume the sacrosanct habit of not settling, of waking up, of taking to the streets to demonstrate our displeasure in a civil manner, of shouting into megaphones that no, we are not okay, that yes, we can change, that yes, we must change, that a better path exists. Indomitable, reassuring but provocative, in the system but also outside, an icon for everyone, a gay icon, Raffaella Carrà represented for millions of people, that transgression, free and carefree in the muffled and somewhat hypocritical society of Italy in the second half of the 20th century. The national Carrà entered the homes of Italians and not only, through the small screen instilling a freedom to be "beyond" joyful, possible and necessary, between one Tuca Tuca and another. So I chose her as the heroine of my AGITATEVI poster, wrapped in the colors of the LGBTQUA+ community that she has always understood and welcomed. In the street I imagine her protesting to the rhythm of her dances, with energy, like in a propaganda poster, demonstrating for others, demonstrating herself, getting agitated, waking us up!
