Since I was a child growing up in the seventies I've been in love with black velvet paintings. Knowing full well it was wrong. something you could never admit even to your closest friends. these incredibly kitschy and often really badly executed have nevertheless survived, mostly in thrift stores bought by people who just want the frame. There are however some notable black velvet artists such as Edgar Leetag and Diane Shilkitus, the latter of whom you can find her amazing works on fabric right here on . I simply wanted to make velvet-like works of the subjects true to the traditions but in a modern medium. This work is part of a collection that will continue to grow.
