ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I was wanting to include a person in some collage based ideas I had. I’d being trying out Risograph printing and loved the outcomes but I needed a change in direction. I asked Cathi Rae..... she's a poet, spoken word artist, body positivity model and campaigner against ageism in the world of fashion. She allowed me to adapt her instagram images to tell my own story. One-of-a-kind I’ve decided to sell my work as a ‘One-of-a-kind'. Although a print, which is repeatable, it would be wrong to call it an edition and suggest I have a set of prints somewhere ready to sell. The beauty of giclée prints is that I print them on demand, which means that clients can request a change in paper stock, or border widths as well as size, of course. My paper of choice, at the moment, is Canson Infinity, Rag Photographic, 310gsm, although I do use 100% Smooth Cotton (300gsm) by Fotospeed and Innovo, on occasions. As standard, my prints are signed, numbered and include a certificate of authenticity. They are printed on A2(42x59.4cm) size paper and have a border of 1 to 2” (30-50mm).

I went to art college back in the 1970s, where I received a BA 1st (Hons) in Fine Art before completing an MA at the Royal College of Art in the film school. I then worked in film and video production and finally the education sector before early retirement. My main influences are the artists being talked about in the 1970s, such as Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg and Jim Dine. The New York scene seemed to combine and challenge what art, performance and film could be in a way that has left a permanent mark on my psyche. This cocktail of Pop Art imagery and Abstract Expressionist mark-making seems to be where I feel most comfortable. The imagery I refer to in my work is autobiographical and has a backstory which is both personal and yet familiar to us all. It is where everyday objects seem to mean a lot.
