b. 2002 Chelmsford, UK Coming from a Civil Engineering background, Muhammad’s work is heavily influenced by architecture, the built environment and engineering. Muhammad considers herself a contributor to the Modern Art movement of the early 20th century, and conveys the innovation of contemporary engineering and architecture in its simplest and purest forms. Muhammad is heavily influenced by artists such as, Piet Mondrian, Kazimir Malevich, Vladimir Tatlin and Yves Klein; she believes their ideals of functionalism remain prevalent in 21st century engineering and architecture. However, she argues that the union of form and function (and, function and feeling) has yet to be recognised due to Modern Art being largely nonrepresentational (i.e. with no subject). Through her works, Muhammad addresses this depersonalisation. She recognises that her works have no inherent meaning. Though, she believes that the wonderful aspect of this is that the viewer is given the power to decide. The viewer has the creative freedom to assign their own meaning and their own emotion to Muhammad’s works. The viewer creates a feeling that is unique to themselves. Media: acrylic on linen canvas, digital, digital on canvas, ink
