Experience the dynamic beauty of the ocean with "Ebb and Flow: Pacific Coast," a mesmerizing digital illustration layered on an 1888 nautical chart. This piece captures the ever-changing tides and landscapes of the Pacific Coast, symbolizing the balance between past and present. This artwork reflects the powerful cycles of the ocean and life itself. The words "EBB" and "FLOW" represent the tidal movements, a metaphor for the strong currents and tides that shape our everyday experiences. Navigating these forces requires time, energy, and effort. The overlapping illustration of ocean, rocks, and sand with their charted moorings emphasizes the lived experience of reconciling the past with the present. Finding calm in the moments between cycles brings assurance and a sense of peace. Perfect for coastal lovers, maritime enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a reminder of nature's cycles. This artwork is ideal for display in living spaces, offices, or meditation rooms, adding a serene and contemplative touch to any environment. Map Origin: "Pacific Coast from San Francisco Bay to Strait of Juan DeFuca," issued December 1888 by the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey. Embrace the calming essence of "Ebb and Flow: Pacific Coast." Order now to add this unique and tranquil piece to your collection, and let it remind you of the peace found in the natural ebb and flow of life. As an artist, I tell visual stories that reveal, question, and celebrate how people interact with the natural and built environment around them. I combine historic maps from the public domain collection of the Library of Congress, with my own illustrations in an attempt to reveal layered meanings derived from history, mythology, folklore and nature. I'm most interested in the often uneasy process of forging a context that surrounds people and places. This often results in producing more questions than answers, which has required a certain level of learned humility, and acceptance that secrets do not loose their grip easily. Artworks are available in two ways, signed limited editions, and unsigned open editions. The signed limited edition Giclee prints are printed by Candela Fine Art Printing using archival inks on archival Canson Edition Etching paper. The unsigned open edition prints are made available to honor the originating principles of maps - as shared visual knowledge to meant to inform, inspire, and guide. I'm excited to bring these works of art to current day explorers through similar means of mechanical reproduction meant for wide distribution and affordability.
