Before the First World War, the German Expressionists created works that can be interpreted as a reaction to the social tensions and anxieties of the time. Her images depicted an intense emotional response to the modern world, reflecting the inner turmoil and premonition of conflict felt by many in the run-up to the war. The Expressionist movement strove not simply to depict reality, but to express the subjective emotions and reactions of artists to this reality. This resulted in an art characterized by distorted shapes and vivid colors to convey the inner feelings and psychological perception of the artists.
