ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This artwork is part of my collection "Motifs in Memory." In this collection, I researched motifs that I used to see in my childhood, especially on doors and buildings. As an artist from the UAE, born in the 1980s, I was exposed to many geometric motifs, as the doors with motifs were popular before the emergence of the more modern villa style. In my artworks, I reintroduce these motifs in an experimental approach, creating new patterns. As I am very interested in creating patterns and playing with colors, I found the digital medium to be the best tool to use, as it gave me endless possibilities to experiment with patterns and colors. The choice of colors was more instinctive, but after completing the artworks, they appeared to me as colored kaleidoscope motifs.

My name is Reem Almulla. I am an artist from the UAE. I enjoy exploring the motifs around me, especially the traditional ones, and using them to create patterns. Growing up in the 80s, I was surrounded by doors and buildings adorned with motifs. This type of aesthetic in buildings is decreasing due to the tendency to build more modern designs. I am trying to revisit these motifs with a fresher outlook, and I enjoy experimenting with different colors and creating various combinations of patterns, resulting in different visual experiences. I find using digital tools is ideal for my work, as it allows me to explore endless possibilities with motifs and colors.
