ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This piece is inspired by a mix of pop art and expressionism. I’ve always been drawn to the bold colors and simplified forms of artists like Andy Warhol or Roy Lichtenstein. Their ability to capture something intense and vibrant in such a striking, almost minimalistic way really resonates with me. I also wanted to bring in some of that emotional depth you see in expressionist works, where the focus is more on conveying an inner experience than on creating something that’s perfectly realistic.

Kay's upbringing in Warsaw was heavily influenced by both western and eastern European art styles. Her artwork is a fusion of these two traditions, a result of her exposure to a diverse range of aesthetic styles. This blend of influences has significantly shaped her artistic sensibilities and given rise to her unique style. She is an independent artist. She consciously opted out of following the academic path, which she found essentially limiting. Kay's deep interest in graphic design, illustration, and painting has been extensively explored through private and self-education. Throughout her artistic journey, she has actively engaged in collaborations with numerous artists, further enriching her creative pursuits. In her work, Kay delves into mysticism, magic, human psyche, queer culture, cultural diversity, and everyday life. As she herself expresses, "I derive profound pleasure from being able to capture the yin and yang elements of people. The completely unpredictable mixture of aspects of themselves, which is often goes unnoticed by people around them." Kay is also the founder and CEO of the Polikultura Foundation, which focuses on migrant support, innovative education and inclusive culture.
