ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In the year 2023 I began to become interested in the creative relationship that could be established between humans and machines. The machine has gone from being a tool to becoming a collaborator. After months of exploring physiognomies, textures and expressions, I refined my creation process using various techniques and digital tools to create new portraits. They are portraits of people who only exist in this image and in our imagination, and who through their looks tell us a story in the viewer's imagination. From my point of view, these images are even more real than images taken with a camera in real life and subsequently manipulated. There is no deception here in these portraits, the character is shown as she is, she exists in this unique way to tell us about ourselves.

Álvaro De la Herrán works the visual arts fundamentally through cinematography, video art and photography. His artistic career has been transversal during the last twenty years, preferring a multidisciplinary experience, as a consequence of a permanent curiosity to develop his expressive needs and shape his interpretation of reality through the creation of images and stories. The search for identity in an increasingly individualistic society, the individual's relationship with nature, pain management or the exploration of the female psyche are some of the themes that Álvaro has explored through his work, always looking for a emotional connection with the viewer. After being featured in Vogue Italia Magazine, Arte Tv or Los Angeles Cinematheque, Álvaro presents now his photographic work for the first time with the intention of expanding this practice that he has been developing during the last years. Some of his audiovisual works have been exhibited at the Balenciaga Museum in Bilbao, El Museo del Traje in Madrid or at the Palazzo Morando in Milan.
