Eyeless Print

A portrait of a human face is often a portrait of human folly. The folly described here may be too subtle. What are they not seeing? Are the expressions smug or glum or sad or tragic? It's not physical blindness I'm describing, but moral blindness, blindness to consequences, which is endemic these days. I do art for the op-ed page of the New York Times and other national papers, and draw much more than is eventually used. Rather than throw the unused concepts in the trash I finish them and revisit them. My best art is unpublished and unseen. Not because of blindness, exactly, but because there is so much to see, and so many ways to describe it, and too few newspapers who publish this kind of art.
