We calculate risks every day. Should I or shouldn't I? It depends on what we think are the consequences. When I was drawing this I was thinking of those consequences that have nothing to do with the choices you've made. They come out of the blue. Here's this man, minding his own business, and one of the Lippizaner stallions decides to jump and accidentally lops off his head. Or it might be another random force, a meteor or a stray bullet. If you would like to be reminded of how fragile life is you should hang this print on your wall. I drew the figure from an old photograph and the horse from a different old photograph. The chance thought that brought them together was as unlikely as a horse lopping off your head while you're sitting thoughtfully in the park. I titled it Moral Hazard because that concept is as remote from moral reality as this chap thought he was from the moment of his death. Moral Hazard is a concept that tends to lay the blame at the feet (or on the head) of the one who's been done in, which hardly seems fair. Of course our universe is neither moral or fair, or it's only as moral or fair as humans can make it, which isn't comforting these days.
