Soon after Cat Rigdon turned 25, she went foraging for mushroom and sorrel by White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas. There was only burdock and river weeds along the rich river bank. Then all the sudden, Rigdon looked upon a human skull - its empty eye sockets and lack of lower jaw. Her partner exited the wooded area to call the police, Rigdon had to stay with the remains. She thought, “this place is slowly killing me.” To Rigdon, Dallas is not inviting, and it is not beautiful compared to any of the other regions of Texas. It is a place to make money and raise a family. Rigdon's drawings on Dura-Lar are based on collaged composition using limited imagery; a reflection of her monotonous studio practice with a color palette to match. These drawings are a distraction from interacting with the city that lays outside of my door. This drawing includes enameled magnetic hardware for mounting.

Named The Other Art Fair - Dallas "Fair Director's Pick" Spring 2021. Cat Rigdon (b. 1990) is a painter and fiber artist based in Dallas, Texas. She grew up on the island of Cyprus, the island's strong folk art and naturalism culture is reflected in Rigdon’s work. She graduated from Texas State University in 2014 and moved to Dallas as a Decorative Arts Junior Specialist and Cataloger for Heritage Auctions. She left the auction house after a serious head injury to pursue a studio based lifestyle. Her obsessively repetitive works deal with her continuous recovery from the brain injury, the mythology of growing up on the island of Cyprus, and artifacts from being an auction catalogers. She currently is a resident at the Cedars Union and has previously been awarded the Clare DeGolyer grant though the Dallas Museum of Art.
