ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I would say my work is quite eclectic, and why shouldn’t it be? An innumerable amount of humans existed in the past that were experts in the field of drawing, painting and whatever other media can be used to create art. To not use a great amount of inspiration from past masters would not be resourceful in my view. Every single person is connected, yet that reality coincides with the reality of isolation. I find contrasting ideas like these very intriguing and explore that throughout this piece. I use immediate chaos, and order...shadow, and light...abstraction, and realism to illustrate these ideas. I also aimed to bring a distinct style to my art, as well as reference the history of art through varying techniques to represent a timeline correlating to the wider subject of human history. The intention for me was to use simple media such as pencil and melted pastels at the top of the piece as an attempt to bring these types of media into the echelon of oil paintings and their perceived value. The poem I wrote is intended to illustrate the meaning behind issues every human being explores. In the same vein, I used different styles of handwriting to represent these human’s earnest questions, along with the biblically inspired “answers” in an authoritarian capitalized text. This exploration and the efforts of artists (people I view as my friends even without meeting them because they laid their souls bear along with me) to project their experiences, reflect the colorful depiction of heaven referencing the genius Vincent Van Gogh. The essential realization in this work is that we all have beauty and strength in us, yet the only way one can consecrate this as eternal and truly powerful is by seeking God. To me this can be a very difficult truth to accept because at times it seems plainly there is no God. But the truth is the truth and I am compelled to express it through art. This piece is your art, just as much as mine. For that reason I would like people to derive their own meaning from my work. Whether you are someone who is viewed as a “non-entity”, or someone of “great notoriety”, I hope you enjoy.
