Some scenarios may seem innocent enough, but upon closer inspection unmistakable sadness becomes apparent. Through drawing, painting and installation marie explores relationships between humor and the uncanny. She creates familiar yet disturbing scenes, sometimes involving violence, usually evoking pathos. Characters appear and reappear. Never learning lessons. Marie grew up in Michigan. She currently lives in Indiana with her husband david birkey.
