I’m greatly inspired by The Beatles, not just by the imprint they left on this world musically but culturally also. Being from Woolton, the birthplace of The Quarrymen (The Original name of the group) and growing up a stones throw from Johns home which he shared with his Aunt Mimi, to the grave of Eleanor Rigby on which is the site where John first got introduced to Paul, it was wonderful to grow up in the shadows and footsteps of ‘The band that changed the world’ I chose this image to portray because it shows the candid movement still of their close relationship which shows off the cheeky Scouse (A person from Liverpool) personality of the pair. You can see Paul leaning towards John saying something in jest resulting in Lennon laughing whilst keeping eyes straight ahead, as McCartney side eyes the flash of the camera with cigarette in mouth. It’s a very humorous and subtle take on the musical giants. I chose to draw furiously using black ink on a triple gesso primed stretched canvas so it really ‘popped’ out on the white background. This helped to capture the movement in which the blur of motion was portrayed in this snapshot in action as other mediums wouldn’t be able to capture this in such depth. It also translates the emotions of which I was feeling and enduring whilst creating this piece and it helped me to express that a lot more loosely and freely whilst getting lost in the dance of my brain to hand connection. I hope you feel the energy and explosion of my expression when viewing this and draw your own interpretation of how it makes you feel as every piece of art should do.

The hardest part of making ‘art’ is this part where I share my love, passion and creation with the world. When you have no ego or vanity, to stand in front of a lens and be seen, when I’d much rather stand in the shadow of privacy is easier said than done to me. The thought of fame doesn’t sit easily well on the mind. I’ve no idea why so many of us grasp for such a type of attention and acceptance, its truly baffling to say the least. Each to their own of course, as it would be a boring world if we were all the same. But to those who have such fame, and offer no knowledge, wisdom or kindness to rub off onto their audience, it’s a wasted burden to behold, or at least, very shallow. Your audience should gain something from you if this is the case, otherwise it’s the blind leading the blind and you’re just a cash cow to their morality. The saying, stop making stupid people famous is apt in my thoughts to you right now.. Follow who inspire you, listen to who makes you smarter, see what makes the heart grow fonder and feel what helps the spirit gain strength.
