About The Artwork

From a series of sketches, diagrams and word drawings exploring 'Blue' as an emotion, a colour, a shape, a formless concept. Inspired by Samuel Beckett's monologue 'Texts for Nothing #8', Derek Jarman's autobiographical film 'Blue' and Joni Mitchell's song 'Blue'.

I am a London born, York based multi-disciplinary artist. Each modality enables an authentic exploration of material and culture, and contributes to an immersive body of work, embodying the dynamic relationship between oneself, others and the encompassing environment. My latest project is inspired by the historical adornment of ancient man, as well as ethnic jewellery, traditional folk techniques, through to more modern hand crafted clay work. Previous areas of interest have included organic forms, language and emotion, relationships and self-identity. I am equally inclined to experiment with surface detail, colour and texture as I am to play with and share personal experiences within my art. I was originally inspired by my artistic upbringing and family, with a father who has dedicated his career to teaching art, photography and ceramics, a grandmother who made jewellery, a grandfather who led the ceramics and metalwork department at Camberwell College of Arts and a great grandfather, Bernard Leach, who played a significant role in 20th century art, shaping British studio pottery for successive generations. In my home life, I was always surrounded by creative influences and interpretations of the world. After graduating from a Jewellery Design BA at Central Saint Martins in 2007, I launched a jewellery brand which was represented by several independent galleries and larger shops in around London including Kabiri, Selfridges, The Last Tuesday Society and Johnny Rocket, receiving national and international press recognition. I have written an artist's blog for run-riot.com, written and illustrated a short story published by Lazy Gramphone, exhibited and performed in London and York.
