ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Your hike through a verdant forest finds you standing before the mouth of a rocky cave. Out of that cave emerges a menacing mountain of brown fur. You seem to have roused and angry grizzly bear. Time to run! Bears are a subject that I've always liked, but have always had trouble with. Most of the time, I wind up throwing out images with bears. I like the way this one turned out, though. Originally, I didn't actually intend to feature a bear in this. I just wanted to create a scene with a cave entrance, but the cave alone seemed like it needed something. So I added the grizzly.

I want my art to be the doorway to ones imagination, a spark that leads to daydreams of journeys into history, fantasy worlds, and even the occassional dark lands of horror. Growing up in the foothills of the Appalachians, I've spent a great deal of time outdoors hiking, fishing and camping in the forests of north Georgia. Consequently, nature and organic forms play a big role in my images. I like to portray animals and creatures, but I’ll depict the occasional person as well; and almost always set in a natural environment. My art has been featured in the pages of Wild West, natural history, and horror magazines. I've had illustrations appear on everything from the covers of fantasy novels to the science sections of newspapers. A few of my works have even found their way into museums of science and history.
