ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Movement, transition, resolution I made this as I moved from Austin, Texas to the Mojave Desert (the first time), I was ready for a new adventure, but sad to be abandoning my dream of living and working in Austin. Austin had become something else, and that something else was no longer good for me, so I left. It is a bit dark. It was raining a lot while I worked on it, and raining when I left.

Current Art Bio (2024) Donna Yarrell lives in the Mojave Desert. She is an Artist, teacher, writer, gardener, caretaker of property and animals, purveyor/ composer of music. Yarrell believes that her life is (and has been) her primary art form. “My life has been like a psychedelic bus ride through the vast stage set of a questionable western." The stage set is the Southwestern United States, California, and Central Mexico. The bus ride has become a movie, a continuing epic perpetually undercapitolized. Despite her nomadic inclinations, Yarrell did go to school and received two degrees, a B.F.A. from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, and an M.F.A. from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, CA. Being compelled to transport her beloved companion animal with her wherever she moves has curbed her nomadic tendencies somewhat. This beloved companion animal is a Palomino gelding. She also has a cat. Championing and spreading knowledge and appreciation of the arts is an important aspect in Yarrell’s life and has been for a long time. Along with the other classes that she teaches for a local college she teaches art appreciation in the summers. Continuing to be a productive artist is something that has been important to Yarrell as well. Currently she is working on mixed media collages and drawings. She also has done bodies of work in metal sculpture, oil and acrylic painting, and outdoor art installations. This bio is ongoing, and is subject to change as new adventures/experiences occur. New artwork will also be added soon.
