Sophie Douglas is a fine artist, teacher and photographer. Throughout her career the work themes flow with what is happening in her life. Her current project is titled “Look Up”. This project explores her life as a mother and the limitations this places on her working practice. She sees these limitations as a positive challenge. The challenges being a lack of studio time, carrying a baby not a camera, and concerns about children’s mental health and lack of connection to the environment. She is also interested in new technology in creating art. The images are all taken on walks with her family using an Iphone, and edited using apps. Sophie says “I wanted to think about the idea that whatever you do there is an app for that.” The images use colour and cropping to disorientate the viewer into questioning what is real and what is false.
