Coca-Cola, the art of commercialism, the "lust" of capitalism. I wanted to invert our collective hypocrisy, we claim that we want to "save the planet" and yet we are undone by our own desires. At the same time -I wanted to celebrate the beauty of "Cola" -and "Pop culture" because even though it is vacuous, and "bad" for us, it satisfies our cravings for something sweet. Our own culture mocks our own high ideals and makes fools of us all, but it is simply a reflection of our own Inner child" that wants to be a little "naughty" I think that we did evolve and that we were also genetically engineered. For that reason, we have Godlike qualities and (as a species) some animal tendencies. “Since the 1990s Coca-Cola has been accused of unethical behaviour in a number of areas, in- including product safety, anti-competitiveness, racial discrimination, channel stuffing, distributor conflicts, intimidation of union workers, pollution, depletion of natural resources, and health concerns." I don't want to glorify the company or the product, it's more an appreciation of the soda and a celebration of its ubiquitous presence in our popular culture. I wanted to deconstruct it and reconstruct it as an artistic exercise. The image has two layers, the bottle (reconstructed as triangles using an algorithm in Paintshop, and the bubbles which were added later in Photoshop. I often make use of both of those programs in creating my images in a deliberate attempt to get a "freaky" as possible. I do not approach all of my work this way, as I've said I'm often happy to employ no effect at all, but I do love to experiment. I'm very pleased with the result as I think it is unique and original.
