My work in feature films can be described as a process of seemingly endless revisions focused on creating a series of perfect sequential, preconceived, idealized, digital moving images. In comparison my direct and intuitive approach to figurative art is quite the opposite. That is why I thought combining these two very different approaches to image making would make for some intriguing and provocative pictures. The addition of historic figurative works, present in some pictures, help build a metaphorical bridge between yesterday's art history and today's contemporary art.
The sculptures and most of the environment sets seen in this series are computer generated. I used a multitude of different techniques and softwares to achieve the final composite. To produce a renderable three dimensional version of the real world sculptures I used a technique called Photogrammetry, where specific software interpolates many photographs of the original sculpture and translates that data into a 3D topology mesh file. The most satisfying part of all the digital procedures is when I’m able to light and render the textured geometry that I had to build in order to make these pictures possible. The addition and tweaking of the physically correct lights add the final touch to creating drama, depth, and atmosphere to the final rendered image.
