ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In this image are 2 shapes of me: one from the past, and one from the "present". This was originally a photo of a birthday party I attended in Kuala Lumpur, where Vietnamese refugee families lived until its closing in 1996. Afterwards, all refugees were repatriated back to Vietnam indefinitely. When you purchase any painting from this series, I will individualize your work before mailing the finished product to you. The art will be printed on 140lbs cold press watercolor paper, physically touched on with acrylic, gouache, watercolor, or other medium to highlight the space and/or subjects. This allows the series to continue living through its engagement with identity.

This series re-creates my family photos as we journey from refugee camp to repatriation back to Vietnam, and finally, as we settle in the United States. During the process of remaking these photos, I investigate the tension between childhood memory and mythos, immigration and identity, and how diaspora leaves its imprints on future generations.
