CHRIS JORDAN (B. 1987) is a multidisciplinary artist, architect and impressionist painter best known for his large scale portraiture. Born in Newark, NJ, he earned his BA from the Pratt Institute School of Architecture. From a young age, Jordan developed an interest in portraiture and its connection with his environment and community. Jordan draws much of his inspiration from contemporary culture and artists such as Kara Walker, Kehinde Wiley and Yayoi Kusama. Jordan combines a wide range of elements into his work. These items include abstracted portraiture of the black gaze, literature of the Harlem Renaissance, his battle with mental health, and the duality of being black & queer artist.
