ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This work is a progression from my individual symbolic drawings. Adinkra are symbols; part of a west African visual system of images that represent ideas and concepts. The movement, change, and adaption of my nomadic lifestyle informs my decision to push, pull, and morph these images with one another. Contrasting colors and solid shapes flow, melt, and morph into the next. Through drawing, painting, and digital recomposition I generate a flow of shapes and patterns that draw the viewer in.

My Goal: Make great art and hopefully find my identity in the process. I was born in Ethiopia and continued to live in Egypt, Malawi, Mozambique, and South Africa before graduating from university in Rhode Island. Those 4 college years in the U.S. was a huge transition from what used to be daily life in Africa. I began compulsively drawing, in and out of classes. Expressed through my subconscious, a recollection of experiences, emotions, and energy brought to life a new visual language. Through marks and symbols, I created images evocative of concepts and aphorisms.
