This beautiful waterfall can be seen at Allamuchy State Park to the side of the main path. The days that I spent painting at this scene revealed an ever changing cycle of the various levels of the water, the growth of the plant life and the amount of sunlight that reached down to touch its moss covered stones. Because these specific elements were constantly in flux, there were only a limited number of days in a fairly short window of the year that I could paint this location. Before that time, the leaves hadn’t grown in and light was everywhere, but after this time, they had grown in so much that no direct light from the sun reached the waterfall. Other times, if it hadn’t rained for a long time, the waterfall slowed down to a trickle, and just after a large storm, it was gushing so much that it looked very different than it does in the painting. So it took me three years to finish, as most of the painting was done plein air. This painting won the Grand Prize in the Highlands Festival At Waterloo Art Competition 2013, and was exhibited at The Morris Museum in 2014. The actual image size is 18"x24" and was created on archival panel.
