ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This gentlemans name was actually Joe Timmins. Originally from New Jersey, he'd been in the merchant marine plying the eastern seaboard of the USA when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Once back at Newport News, Joe signed off his ship went to the recruitment office and signed on for the US Army. Later he was deployed to the Mediterranean theatre and took part in the landings at Anzio, after which he together with his comrades went all the way to Berlin. Subsequently he was a member of 'MAAG' - Military Advice Assistant Group, in the early days of the Vietnam conflict. He had a soft spot for the British as, he once told me, he'd become seperated from his unit at Anzio and hooked up with some British guys until he could get back to his own regiment. In this picture Joe has lost his temper after finding out one of his kitchen hands (Joe was a restaurant owner) had sat on his Harley without permission. He was NOT a 'Happy Chappy'.

I am originally British, born in Stornoway Isle of Lewis. Historically I have travelled the world, on one occasion overseas for twelve years non stop. My Mothers side of our family were Scottish, my Father was born in what used to be British North Borneo, now the state of Sabah Malaysia. Dad had served on aircraft carriers as a Fleet Air Arm pilot having signed on in Singapore just before the Japanese invasion. Our great uncle, Hector McNicol founded what became the McNicol School in Kilmarnock which focused on Scottish Landscapes. All of us siblings seem to have inherited artistic abilities of one kind or another.
