ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Approaching Dongwu Temple on Chinese New Years Eve (Suzhou, China) is a painting of a Chinese temple in Suzhou, China. This mixed media painting in a contemporary fauvist style was made after we visited the temple on New Year's eve in the rain. I remember the reflection of the temple in the rain-soaked stone courtyard, the smell of incense, the lights, and the small and large candles burning in different areas of the temple. The Dong Wu Temple is primarily Buddhist, but is syncretic in that there is a section for the Taoist gods (Shen.) This painting is part of Dave Alber's exhibit, Intimations and part of Dave Alber's art catalogue: Intimations 2018: Travel Art.
