About Jenny, American Artist Jenny Wonder (b. Jennifer Wong 1977, Cleveland OH) was born into a family of musicians and artists, cultivating her artistic nature from childhood. She began her art career early with her first exhibits as a student and studied the arts in college. Her lifelong interest in indigenous art and the prehistoric people who made it drew her to the deserts of the southwest and her formal studies. Earning university degrees in liberal arts and anthropology in New Mexico (AA, BS), Jenny worked in museums, research, and taught in high schools across the region for 10+ years. With the onset of the global pandemic and schools closed, Jenny returned to the art studio and renewed her passion for and dedication to painting. Now a full-time artist, Jenny's art has been seen at Burning Man and other southwest US art festivals, featured in regional galleries and group exhibitions, and included in corporate and private art collections. She currently lives and works in New Mexico and Arizona. Jenny's modern abstract paintings captivate the viewer through her bold use of color, deep textures, strong brushstrokes, and the rapid sense of movement that is conveyed onto her canvases. In each painting you can feel the speed, softness, and restraint that is manifest through pushing, pulling, dragging, scraping, splashing, staining, and brushing the paint in both additive and subtractive gestures. She is intensely interested in exploring the different qualities in her materials and dismisses many of the traditional "rules" of art, pushing the accepted boundaries of beauty and aesthetics. In making all of her intriguing, intuitive paintings various abstract expressionist techniques and often unconventional tools are employed to create original, innovative, and highly collectable contemporary art pieces.
