About The Artwork

Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, Invocation Of Compassion Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva is depicted in five semi-cursive characters: 觀自在菩薩, Japanese Kanjizai Bosatsu , Chinese Guānzìzài púsà . With this calligraphy I want to invoke the compassionate activity of Avalokiteshvara, the great Bodhisattva who promised to free al sentient beings from suffering. I have brushed the name of Kanjizai Bosatsu in large characters, so that the hanging scroll gives you the presence of the enlightened activity that springs forth from this Holy Name. This calligraphy invites you to sit down and to be aware of this Immeasurable Ocean of Virtue. The five characters Kanjizai Bosatsu, are all the more interesting because they are the first five characters of the Shingyo, the Heart Sutra, the essence of the Buddha’s teaching on emptiness.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My artwork comprises Zen calligraphy, watercolor and ink paintings, and abstract calligraphies. My mediums are ink, watercolors and natural pigments on rice paper, mainly Xuan paper. I wield the Chinese and Japanese brush, preferably the flexible sheep's hair brush. Many of my Zen calligraphies express the Emptiness teaching from the Heart Sutra, which has been the original inspiration for my Japanese calligraphy artwork. Other calligraphies focus on the teachings of the Diamond Sutra, Platform Sutra, or depict Zen koan, Zen poetry or single kanji. In my watercolors and ink paintings I strive for a pictorial synthesis of the subject, in the spirit of Japanese ink painting, using bold washes and vivid brush strokes.
