ABOUT THE ARTWORK

It is a work full of love. I am not a woman, I will never be able to understand many of the implications of being one, but I have learned to be close to them as a man. Just this.

Behind each artist there is another figure, his double, the same, different or deformed, which preserves his essence, his personal conception of the world, his poetics. Terranera, is the pseudonym behind which the artist Jacopo Michelangelo Santucci hides, a destiny in the name, born in 1981, on 11 May in Atri, in the province of Teramo, one of the oldest cities of art in the Abruzzo Adriatic . Son of Primo Santucci, painter and sculptor who passed away in 1999 and of Paola Santi, painter and teacher of art history, Jacopo lives early with the behavioral rules deriving from the experience and study of painting. Since childhood, he shows a spontaneous ease towards any activity aimed at creative forms and aesthetic expression. The first attempt at dialogue and artistic communication dates back to the age of 5, when he set up his first exhibition in his home garage. In the following years a visceral interest in music also grows with emphasis that will lead Jacopo to a consequent activity as a musician, playing in various formations of the Pescara area, a passion that over time will always remain in a curious balance with his activity as a painter. At the age of twenty, two years after his father's death, he moved to Bologna, enrolling in the Faculty of Political Sciences. Disappointed by the canonical academic environment, he turns out to be enthusiastic and participant in the cultural and vital fervor of the city, a reservoir of experiences to which he will remain deeply attached. Precisely during the three years spent in the Bolognese magma, he realizes that he wants to give voice to his talent and decides to put aside all the activities carried out so far to focus full time on his primordial drive for drawing. Abandoned Bologna, she moved to Chieti, where she attended the Scuola Internazionale di Comics, graduating in animation. Initially, the comic strip was perhaps a fallback to painting but it is in this period that Santucci has the opportunity to meet and interact with key characters and designers in the world of Italian illustration, such as the master Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri, artistic director of the School. The encounter with the work of Andrea Pazienza, whose visionary charm, artistic chameleonism and a reworking of a visual and linguistic code, more adequate to express the soul of modernity, in order to convey messages in a way immediate and direct beyond any geographical and cultural boundary.
