ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting was inspired from my travels to the Bahamas and desire to help the Abaco islands after hurricane Dorian devastated the islands. I was inspired by the images post hurricane on social media and the title 'Beacon of Hope' came to mind when I saw the destruction at Hope Town, Abaco. I chose to depict the lighthouse which is a well known historical and much loved landmark by the community and island cruising tourists. I then created the most bountiful and colorful reef I could imagine, added a Viking sports-fishing boat since it is a favorite fishing destination by locals as well as Floridians. I hope it gives hope that some day, Elbow Reef Lighthouse and the Abaco islands can be restored to the paradise destination it was prior to hurricane Dorian. September 2019, I created a fundraiser and original painting was purchase at auction for $5000 by a private art collector in Florida, I donated half to along with several print sale proceeds to help raise funds. I am presently running my second fundraising campaign promoting print sales of 'Beacon of Hope' to help raise funds to restore the lighthouse and help the community of Abaco.

Dear Art Collectors, I am originally from NE Canada, moved to Fort Lauderdale in 2000 and became a US citizen in 2018. I spent the last 20 years freelancing as private luxury yacht chef in the Bahamas, Caribbean, New England, Flrorida and the Mediterranean while dedicated all my time to painting my travel memories between my yacht contracts. I now work full time as artist out my Fort Lauderdale studio. I participate in numerous local fine art shows and festivals throughout the year as well as fundraisers for marine and coastal related conservation efforts through the sell of my art. Several of my paintings have been published on magazine covers notably the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in 2016. I am presently raising funds through print sales of my painting 'Beacon of Hope' in collaboration with the Elbow Reef Lighthouse Society in Abaco, Bahamas to help raise funds to restore the lighthouse that was damaged by hurricane Dorian in 2019. My next art show is at Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo in February 2021 and will surely commit to other events prior to that date.
