ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This piece is inspired by my former neighbourhood but is painted from my imagination. It could be any coastal city. The buildings are made out of ads that i collected from the recycling and the idea of the scene is to speak to the relationship between the health of the ocean and all the freighters that are necessary to continue to provide goods for the occupants of the dense population that crowds the waterways. How is this reconciled from an environmental perspective? What checks and balances have to be put into place to keep humans, the ocean and the environment functioning at top capacity? There are the questions that i contemplate as I create these series of paintings.
