ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s quote, “You must be the change you wish to see in this world”. I believe that to be the change I want to see in the world, it has to start with me, I have to be the one making a difference and this painting is a reminder of it and I wish to share with others.

Claudia P. Marulanda Gomez was born in Cali, Colombia then moved to New York City in 1985. As an adult, she pursued a degree in Art & Advertising Design from the New York City Technical College and graduated in 1997. Simultaneously, Claudia worked as an Art Director and Graphic Designer for 15 years with a focus on editorial and catalog design. Claudia is an entrepreneur and artist. Her passion for art is crafted through meaningful paintings that celebrate and inspire women. Her most recent work is built on the idea of women expressing themselves and/or through storytelling. In 2015, Claudia held a solo exhibition called Wonder Women. In 2016, she created an art work-shop for underserved children focused on empowerment and self-expression and engaged other artists to this great cause of giving back to our kids. On March 16th, 2017, Claudia was part of an exhibition called ‘So What’s Her Story?’ where she was one of the featured artists. In August and November 2019 she created two pop-up art events called Art + Talk in Brooklyn, NY. On December 5th, Claudia participated in an exhibit dedicated to the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence. For this new year 2020, Claudia is dedicating herself fully to her art and is looking to be part of more art exhibitions where she can share her art with the world. “I will continue making art that best represents women, creates a positive feeling and at the same time continue to support women and children as I grow in this path. For me, this is just the beginning and there will be more of Claudia to come!” — Says Claudia.
