Black Shepard III Print

This piece is coming from my 2022 project where I aim to portray the unpopular culture of the Massai people. Their uniqueness and yet cultural multiplicity attracted me to do the project. The popular knowledge about the Massai people was that they predominantly originated and domiciled in Kenya and Tanzania, but one of the inconspicuous traits they carry is the nomadic tendency which could be linked to several other nomads such as the Wodabes and the Fulanis of Western Africa. In this project, I portrayed the Massai with flocks of sheep rather than the popular cattle most know them for in order to bring in a form of drama and break the monotony associated with them. The portrayal on the pieces is done using oil and acrylic. I chose these mediums because of their flexibility and forgivableness. Moreover, it allows me the ability utilise the expressionism style as well as some abstract shapes in the piece. For this particular piece, I used acrylic on the very consistent and durable Stonehenge painting board.
